Music Video Pitch - One Page Pitch
Group - Lizzie Stafford
Help (if needed) –Family
Song Choice - Eternity by VIXX
(https://youtu.be/cIfoNcm8Psw)
Genre – Kpop (Korean pop, which
contains the normal sounds of pop with a mix of rap and r&b)
Location – Abandoned building to
be used for dancing scenes, Hardwick park (autumn), dark room with 1 singular
hanging, swinging light for some close ups.
Equipment needed – video camera,
tripod, lighting, still camera, a board with wheels
Time needed – 6 weeks
Time length of video – 3:10
minutes
Costume – the use of different
makeup and clothing to show the different members singing and the clothing
itself will be a mix of formal (suits) and casual clothing( such as jumpers and
shorts) which is common in the kpop genre.
Overall effect – the message of
this song is the passage of time and denial. The music video will be a
performance with a dance routine, with close ups and lip-syncing. Will also include
shots of clocks and the change in seasons (leaves changing colours) to
represent the passing of time. To move the camera, it will be placed on a board
with wheels so it will get clean sweeping shots from low and high angles.
Audience – Teens and young adults
(12+), fans of kpop and the group. I will be aiming for the type of person who
has an interest in Kpop or Asian pop (like Jpop) and similar things, like
anime, manga, k-dramas etc.
Roles – I will be doing a dance
routine, lip-syncing and acting for the video. I will also film everything
(with a bit of help from my younger brother).
Music Video Locations
In this video you can see 2 of the 3 locations I have chosen to use for my music video.
These locations are:
- An abandoned building
- Hardwick Park
- A dark room with a singular, hanging light
In Hardwick Park I will be using it as a background shot for some of the mid-shots and close ups of the singers. I will also be going at different seasons to get the passing of time, which is relevant to the song chosen.
the dark room will be used only for close ups or mid-shots, for the hanging light will be made to swing, creating shadows and highlights on the singers face.

Q Magizine Article - Video Games
In the article the writer tells us that 'mini-movies' are being used by artists as music videos, and that these normally have their own conventions "it must be long, self-regarding, hubristic and flamboyantly expensive". They are normally "designed to project power and money but usually ends up revealing an artist's fatal flaw just before it swallows them".
Rihanna's mini-movie for her song "Bitch Better Have My Money" has sparked controversy as it includes nudity, violence, and gore to try to make her seem like a powerful person. This is mostly what a large proportion of the article is based around. They also write how Rihanna wants to come across as "badass" but only seems to be trying to be "jumpstarting one of her weaker [songs with] blood, tits and instant controversy". Artists sometimes, like Rihanna has done with this song, want the controversy to gain publicity and get more views which will then get more people listening and maybe buying the song. This music video, while it's on Youtube, contribute to where the artist is in the charts, so they want to get the views.

Recommended M/V Textual Analysis'
M/V 1 - Blink 182 - All The Small Things
In the music video they are doing parodies of 'Boy Bands' such as Backstreet boys and Britney Spears. This is common in their genre of Pop Punk where they like to make jokes or make fun of thing which are 'mainstream' like pop artists. They use a lot of close up and mid-shots to show off the costumes used, to give the audience a picture off who/what they are parodying. then they also use low shots which are common in the rock genre as it helps show off the whole 'live band' they are.
M/V 2 - Vampire Weekend - A-Punk
This music video has been speed up and they have lip-synced in a way that makes it seem he is still singing at the normal speed. They have also included instruments such as guitars and drums to make it seem as if they are playing the music live. They have a very 'Beatles' vibe with the way they are dressed and the scenes where they do small intervals such as the 'snow' and the 'ocean'. This is used for they are both 'rock' bands; even though Vampire Weekend is American, it seems they have been inspired/influenced by the Beatles.
M/V 3 - BIGBANG - BangBangBang
In the video a lot of different scenes are used, which is common place in the kpop genre. They use a lot of low wide shots at the beginning and at the end of the video to show off their dancing and the way it is all set up. Every member of the group gets their own different set up which is in tie to when they are doing their parts. They also have a very 'over the top' and a lot of stuff going off at once, for this goes with how big the group is in South Korea (their nickname is the 'kings of kpop'). They have a very male vibe for they have shirtless scenes and a lot of cars, guns and explosions, and then later on they have a whole room of females dancing in short dresses. This is also common place in kpop for the males are meant to be seen as strong, manly and handsome, while females are made to be overly sexual.

Plan for 1 Minute Music Video
I plan to work by myself in this task. I want to know what it would be like to work on my own and what the work load will be like.
The song I am using is Sunny Day Hero by SHINee.
They are a kpop group (Korean) but this song is from one of their Japanese albums.
I will be uploading the storyboard soon for I have finished it and I have also used the same song to do a practice at lip-syncing.

Happy - M/V Textual Analysis
This music video is said to be the first ever '24 hours' music video. People can log on '24hoursofhappy.com' and they will have a different clip for every hour of every day. They also encouraged people to create their own versions of the video, and have it titled 'We are Happy from...' to get every place a version. This helped with the advertisement of the song and the video.
In the Happy music video, they use lots of clips of different people in different areas of LA dancing/lip-syncing to the song, making it seem that it is everyone's song, not just Pharrell's. The way its edited makes it seem to go smoothly from scene to scene.

M/V Textual Analysis - Queen
I have chosen to analysis Queen's We Will Rock You.
In the music video they show a lot of the genre
characteristics of rock music. They play their own instruments such as guitars
and drums. They also seem to be doing a 'live' performance in the video, which
is what a lot of rock bands do.
There also are a lot of close ups of the singer and the of
the other band members. This shows that the record label could have included
these to keep the focus on the band. The main singer has the most scenes and
close ups for the durance of the video, because lead singers are seen as the
main element of most bands.
The music video also has the notion of looking, for they are
singing in some scene straight to us, the audience and they also point as if
they can see us. They also use pronouns such as 'you' which can link this to
another of Goodwin's features, the linking of lyrics and visuals.
